MATT Taylor has tipped the Reebok’s quiet man, Mark Davies, to start making a big noise on the Premier League stage.

Davies is in the middle of his best run in the Wanderers first team, starting six of the last seven games, and his recent form has sparked calls for England boss Fabio Capello to take a closer look at him.

Taylor believes the 22-year-old, who created Daniel Sturridge’s goal at White Hart Lane on Saturday, has got the tools to become a major midfield influence in the future.

“He’s as quick with the ball as he is without it,” he said. “You can’t get close to him if he’s carrying it in full stride and creating chances.

“I think that’s what the manager wants from him and you saw with the goal at the weekend, he’s got a final ball.

“He’s not that confident as a person, he’s quite quiet, and that’s what’s nice about him. He’s a great footballer and I’m sure there’s a lot to come from him.”

Having got his nose in front of Fabrice Muamba and Tamir Cohen to start alongside Stuart Holden in centre midfield, Davies is set to make his 100th career start against Everton on Sunday afternoon.

Wanderers missed the chance to close a four-point gap on Sunderland last weekend, and could slip to ninth by kick-off, depending on Stoke’s result at Birmingham 24 hours earlier.

Taylor is confident, however, that the team can shrug off the disappointment felt in North London, most of which was aimed squarely at the performance of referee Mark Clattenburg.

“We were all upset with the decisions but that’s football and you can’t do anything about it,” he said. “The problem is nowadays that if you say anything about it, you get yourself in trouble.

“It’s a big game on Sunday, that four o’clock kick-off on the telly when everyone else has played. But we’re at home and our home form has been very good this season, so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t expect to pick up some points.”

Key to a result against Everton could be on-loan striker Sturridge, whose two goals in two games since his arrival from Stamford Bridge on transfer deadline day have made him an instant hit with the fans.

“He’s something different,” Taylor said. “He looks confident, wants to get on the ball, and he’s brought goals, which has been a real plus.”
