Forrest cut down rest in bid for an immediate return

FORREST B may have made their exit from Section A at the end of last season but they have started the new Bolton Badminton League campaign determined to make a swift return.

In the early fixtures, they disposed of Markland Hill D - who narrowly missed promotion last season - 11-7, then beat that club's E team 15-3, and now Westhoughton B have fallen to their ambitions in a 15-3 defeat.

If Forrest continue their current form, they will have to cope with joint-contenders Park who have also started the season with a trio of victories.

Their victims included a 10-8 win over Sharples A, also just down from Section A, and sets up an interesting build-up for the first Park-Forrest clash of the season at Park's new base at Hayward Leisure Centre.

Similarly, DL Farnworth A were demoted from B Section, but have already made their mark on Section C with two 18-0 triumphs to put them in pole position above closest rivals Forrest C.

DL Farnworth's B team are also in this section and keen to succeed, as their home performance against Deane C revealed. Julie Almond and Mark Kirkman struck first with their top mixed set, but the visitors' Ann Hayton and Kanti Mistry then took both their games.

The next set was shared and Deane's Lisa Wintle and Craig Harvey added two more before Farnworth's Marje McCormick and Stephen Clegg managed to level matters following a mammoth 28-26 victory.

Farnworth struck back quickly with both top ladies' games, but with top men's and second ladies' sets both split, the tie rested on the final men's games.

And Stephen Clegg and Frank Hulton did not disappoint their Farnworth team-mates; winning the first to 12 to secure the points and the second to 19 for a 11-7 win.

Westhoughton D and Moorside B are both in the bottom half of Section D after a hard-fought match at Westhoughton.

Linda Rigby and Terry Finnegan put the home side ahead with the opening two games before Jean Goody and Alan Parkinson levelled the match. The mixed continued the same way and the score was 5-5 going into the men's and ladies' games.

Christine Smith and Jude Entwistle took both top ladies' for Moorside, before Terry Finnegan and Andy Fishburn won both top men's for Westhoughton. But when the home team's Irene Hatfield and Val Ainscough took both second ladies, they needed only one more game to win.

Andy Millar and Andy Fishburn quickly supplied this in a 23-21 nail-biter, and Moorside's Alan Parkinson and Steve Gittins could only tidy up the scoreline with their final game for a 10-8 win to Westhoughton.
