AMIR Khan believes taking on a tough test in the shape of former two-time world champion Devon Alexander can win over American boxing fans.

The Bolton superstar faces Alexander at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on December 13 with the winner set to be in pole position for a headline bout with either Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao.

But Khan is just focusing on beating Alexander before talk of a dream date in 2015 and says he rejected a money-spinning chance for an all-UK clash with Kell Brook to continue his bid to crack America.

Khan said: "It is a tough fight and I could have taken an easier option but that’s not me.

"I could have fought Kell Brook in the UK and made more money.

"That would have been an easy option because he does not throw as many punches.

"But I want the tough fights; I want to prove myself time and again.

"I want to make a name for myself in America.

"I want to win over the US fans, that’s why I fight US names.

"I am not looking past this fight – I have made that mistake before.

"I just need to stick to my game plan and remain 100 per cent focused."

Khan had been in line to fight Alexander a year ago but the deal fell through when the Boltonian thought there was a chance of taking on Mayweather.

That has still not transpired but if it is to happen, Khan knows Alexander is a hurdle he must jump first.

He added: "It should have happened a long time ago but now it is and we are giving the fans what they want.

"We knew it would happen one day and the fact it has a year on shows that none of us are afraid.

"You could say it was a bigger fight at this time last year when Devon had the IBF title.

"But he is still a two-time world champion and a tricky opponent so it is going to be as tough.

"I think having the fight delayed has given me time to come back stronger at the new weight and I feel much more ready now so there are no regrets."
