WBO international heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is training at a Bolton leisure centre in his bid to achieve "legendary status".

The Bolton-based boxer is preparing for his title defence against Christian Hammer at the 02 Arena in London on February 28 with sessions at Total Fitness in Waters Meeting Road.

Fury had a short recovery period following his 10th-round stoppage of Dereck Chisora in November, but believes he will be well prepared for his next title fight just three months after winning the belt.

“Training is going really well,” said the 6ft 9in champion.

“I am feeling strong, feeling fit, feeling ready.”

The 26-year-old has been completing sessions using pads, weights and in-ring sparring at the Bolton gym in preparation for the Romanian-German fighter.

Christian Hammer is third in the World Boxing Organisation’s rankings for the heavyweight division, and Fury is not taking the challenge lightly.

“Hammer is a really good fighter,” he said.

“He is not a pushover. I want to challenge myself against the top competitors.”

While training hard for his fight with Hammer, Fury is already planning fights that, if victorious, will cement his status as a boxing legend.

Promoter Frank Warren claimed earlier this month that a Fury fight with undefeated American Deontay Wilder is “the biggest fight out there”.

WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko is also in Fury’s sights after he earned the right to face ‘Dr Steelhammer’ after stopping Chisora last year.

“I have been working towards Klitschko for three or four years,” he said.

“Those are three fights there that can give a man legendary status for a 100 years."
