DAISY Hill and Bradshaw maintained their 100 per cent records last weekend in the Bolton League 2nd XI competition as both made it four wins out of four.

Daisy Hill were pushed all the way by Blackrod before eventually winning by a slender two wickets.

Chasing a target of 148, they were indebted to Darshan Varsani's 35 and 22 from Adam Arkwright as they edged home.

Earlier Varsani had also starred with the ball as he took 3-47 in the Blackrod innings of 147-8 for whom Mark Glover made the biggest contribution with 42.

Bradshaw kept up their good start with a five-wicket win at Farnworth Social Circle. Social had been thankful for a fine knock of 75 from Stephen French without which their score of 135 might have much lower.

Jordan Evans followed up his 3-14 by making 28 not out in the Bradshaw reply, and, together with Mike Dewhurst (34) and Elliot Dargan (32), saw Bradshaw home.

Heaton made short work of a potentially challenging target of 195 set by Standish, thanks in the main to a stand of 120 between Jonathon Cross (49) and Nigel Duxbury who made 92 not out as they raced home with nearly 18 overs to spare. Mike Hadfield with 76 and Steve Critchley (42 not out) had been the main contributors in Standish's 194-8 with Adam Hulton taking 3-57.

Eagley and Kearsley contested a thriller which visitors Kearsley squeeze home by just four runs. Batting first, Joe Capstick's 42 helped his side reach a total of 117 with Jonathon Birchall taking 3-23. Then, despite 38 from Daniel Burke and Craig Faulkner's 31, Eagley fell agonisingly short on 113 with Pushparajah starring with 7-40.

Daniel Ashton's 5-12 for Atherton helped to restrict Lostock to a total of 162 all out in a competitive match played at Darcy Lever, with Luqi Issa (30) and a late recovery from Neil Flanagan (38) and Tom Mills the main run-scorers.

Ashton then chipped in with 39, and together with Ellis Mort (48) and Jack Welch 32 saw his side home by three wickets.

There was another close game at Sharples Park where Astley Bridge also emerged victorious by three wickets over Adlington. Darryl Hitchen (44) had provided the base for an Adlington total of 171 all out as Millen Patel took 3-29.

Zak Green's spell of 4-45 threatened to derail the chase but in the end James Cooper (58) and Millen Patel (36) secured the win.

Tonge's early-season struggles continued as another fine spell of bowling from Ian Lee (6-13) skittled them out for just 48. Joe Schofield provided the one bright spot with an unbeaten 20. Little Hulton then wasted little time in securing an eight-wicket win.

Horwich RMI were grateful to Mark Knowles' unbeaten 39 as they reached their target of 105 for the loss of six wickets, albeit with 20 overs to spare, despite Joel Coleman taking 3-40.

Coleman had earlier top scored for Walkden with 26 in their total of 104 as Charlie Dobson picked up 4-29 for RMI.

Sunday's Birtwistle Cup games saw both Bradshaw and Daisy Hill lose their unbeaten records as they were knocked out by Darcy Lever and Farnworth, respectively.

Bradshaw were probably reasonably happy to restrict Darcy Lever to 152-9 as both Ryan Garner and Adam Barton-Wells grabbed three wickets. Ayaz Hanif (47) and Wayne Hopkinson (32) provided the bulk of the home side's runs.

Hanif then followed up his runs by taking 3-24 to help dismiss Bradshaw for 123 in reply with the only real resistance coming from Jordan Evans who made 29.

A 130-run partnership between Jamie Bohannon (93) and Nakash Qamar (83) helped Farnworth build up an imposing total of 306-9 against Daisy Hill despite a spell of 4-42 from Adam Irish.

Daisy Hill were never really in the hunt as Andrew Brooks collected 4-19 and it was only thanks to the tail wagging a bit that they managed to reach 101.

Lostock gained revenge for the previous day's defeat with an exciting 14-run win over Atherton.

David Baines threatened to undermine Lostock with a brilliant spell of 4-9 in his nine overs but a late rally led by Keiran Barlow (27) pushed the total up to 140-8. Scott Ryan led the reply with a fine 42 but wickets fell at regular intervals and Atherton were dismissed for 126, Darren Parr taking 3-28 for Lostock.

Standish edged past Blackrod by just one wicket in a low scoring thriller at Vicarage Road.

Chasing a target of 119 Mike Hadfield completed an excellent all-round performance as his unbeaten 48 steered Standish home despite Mark Glover taking 4-38.

Earlier, Hadfield had taken an impressive 7-32 to help dismiss Blackrod for 118 despite knocks of 39 from Craig Bailey and 38 from Glover who also had a good all-round game.

The final game of the round saw records galore as Horwich RMI went to town against struggling Tonge.

A record total of 475-4 included a remarkable 319 not out from Joe Settle and 50 Zaid Patel. Sam Little's 3-0 then helped dismiss an understandably dispirited Tonge for just 27 in reply
