FROM a financial position it appears that, so far, the Friday matches in the Bolton League Twenty20 competition are far more lucrative that the Tuesday ones.

It is surprising, however, that none of the clubs went for the Bank Holiday Monday option.

Three matches over a weekend, Friday evening and then Saturday and Sunday afternoon is a lot of cricket for the recreational player and the Bolton League will have to address the problem before next season.

I was talking to the officials at Enfield when Bradshaw played there the other Sunday and it was clear from what they said and what I read on the Lancashire League website that quite a lot of players from that league's clubs had opted to play Friday and Saturday and the give the Lancashire Knockout matches on the Sunday a miss.

Evenings are really only light enough to play 40 overs in an evening between mid-May and early July, so it should be possible to reduce the number of weekend double-headers over this period.

The closest of the Dixon Air Conditioning Twenty20 matches on Tuesday evening was at Eagley where Heaton professional Humayun Farhat hit 84 not out to see them home in the last over.

The home team scored 138, being dismissed in the 20th over.

Jordan Lomax and Will Shuttleworth had helped them to 108-3, but a collapse followed, engineered by George Holliday who took 4-6.

Heaton lost two wickets in the first over, before Farhat stole the show with his superb innings from a precarious position of 107-8.

Harib Patel was the pick of the bowlers with 3-19.

In the all-Farnworth clash, Social Circle made 111-3 in their 20 overs with Rick Hamblett scoring 49 not out.

Adil Nisar then followed up his two wickets with a half century to steer Farnworth to a seven-wicket victory.

Daisy Hill struggled to 86 all out against Adlington, with Umer Qadri scoring 24 and James Mann 30 in the middle of the innings. Adlington's professional Majid Majeed was the main destroyer taking 4-11.

Suleman Mohammad then struck 30 to give the visitors victory inside 13 overs.

Atherton recorded a respectable 126 at Walkden, but professional Aiden Markram hit a rapid 95 not out to give the home side a nine-wicket win.

There were few surprises in the first round of the Lancs KO, although Glodwick from the Pennine League defeated a very strong Formby side from the Liverpool Competition.

At 67-0 chasing just over 200, Knight Riders would have given Ramsbottom a scare before the remainder of the side were dismissed cheaply. There is a good split of clubs from the various leagues in the second round, with the Greater Manchester and Pennine Leagues particularly well represented, although this is partially because due to the merging of various leagues in this part of the county they had more entrants in the competition.

Three Bolton League sides remain in the second round a week on Sunday with Bradshaw travelling to Bootle, and Farnworth and Westhoughton at home to Flixton and Denton St Lawrence, respectively.

Clitheroe remain in the competition having been beaten in the first round by Blackpool when it was discovered the latter had fielded two overseas players.
