NICK Jeffs' phenomenal knock of 119 led Lostock to a fantastic victory away to Blackrod.

The visitors struggled early on in the batting and limped to 52-4 before Peter Flanagan steadied the ship with a crucial knock of 40.

Jeffs was the sixth batsman to come to the crease and he dragged his side into a strong position, knocking 21 boundaries in 72 balls to reach his total of 119.

He was eventually bowled out by Blackrod skipper Chris Sanderson (4-45), before Thushendra De Zoysa (3-49) aided in dismissing them for 221.

Rob Holgate starred with the ball in reply with figures of 5-51 as the Vicarage Road side were bowled out 86 runs short of the target – Sanderson was the only batter to put up any sort of resistance as he scored 60.

And Lostock skipper Geoff Earle was delighted with the performance of both his batting and bowling attack and called for them to carry the momentum into the next game.

“It was an excellent win. We really turned up and put in a good performance,” he said.

“Nick (Jeffs) had a difficult season last year but he has really come out firing this season. He hit 50 against Atherton and we know he has got that in him, it's just about getting it out of him.

“It was some extremely clean hitting. It was his first hundred for the club and it was huge. I think we were at 50-odd for four when he came in and he really helped get us into a good position.

“Rob (Holgate) took five wickets and the other bowlers like David Flanagan really helped to set it up perfectly for him.

“We have been a bit inconsistent so far this season but hopefully this win will help us pick up some more wins and really kick on.”

Meanwhile, Dominic Gavin starred with the ball for Darcy Lever as they recorded a 49-run victory at home to Standish.

Nick Fawcett set the marker for Darcy by hitting 91, before skipper James Walsh-Hill scored 46 not out.

Scott Burns (36) and Cameron Murray (35) also impressed with the bat as the Hacken Lane side posted 271-8.

Stephen Wright (2-10), Zulqanain Khan (2-52) and Shahrukh Khan (2-32) did the most damage with the ball, taking two wickets apiece.

Usman Khushnood top-scored in reply with 49 but superb bowling from Gavin, who took eight wickets for just 72 runs, saw Standish bowled out for 222.

Daisy Hill went level on points with Heaton after a 17-run victory over the Lower Pools side.

A spread of the wickets between Mustafa Bashir (2-15), Mohammed Bhola (2-13), Ahmed Matloob (2-41) and George Holliday (2-26) had Daisy Hill bowled out for 162.

Mike Chilton and Umer Qadri were the only batters of note, hitting 25 and 26 respectively.

Oliver Sutcliffe spearheaded the reply with 68, but his teammates failed to deal with the fine bowling of Amjid Khan (6-36) as they were dismissed for 145.
