WELL who wanted to win the Hamer cup anyway?

So I guess the first thing to say is well done to Blackrod for a comfortable win on Sunday.

Hopefully my team Golborne's seconds can finish the job at Standish when that game comes to a conclusion.

Looking at the draws for the next round, it's an even split between Bolton League and ex-Bolton Association sides in both competitions, with only Lostock(definitely) and Little Hilton (potentially) with both first and second teams left in the competitions.

A special mention for Lostock at this point – once again both teams having to play all games away from home while awaiting completion of their new ground.

It shows the amount of resilience and team spirit within the club, having played last season at Haydock also and enjoying a successful season.

I, as I am sure they, must be looking forward to next year, although they do say if it isn't broken...

A couple of things from my game at Golborne this week. Firstly, the decision to reduce the overs and revise the total after a brief rain delay, which apparently should not have happened.

Evidently neither captains nor umpires were aware – as indeed I wasn't.

Only after a quick scouring of the rule book did it come to light and it is clearly one to note for the rest of the cup games.

Secondly, the decision to rearrange the two league programmes which suffered total washouts.

I'm not sure this sits easily with me, due to the fact there is one different team having a free day on each weekend.

If there were an even number of teams then there wouldn't be a problem – but the old chestnut of potentially deciding a league title could always be an issue.

We can only hope for an improvement in the weather for this weekend and the rest of the season and no more wash outs!
