EGERTON are up to second in the Premier Division after recording the narrowest of victories during thrilling encounter with Heywood.

Adam Street was the hero with the ball for the Blackburn Road side as they were bowled out for only 135.

Sandun Waeerakkody knocked 37 before Marcus Pratt added 32. Dave Hamnett then chipped in with a vital 27 runs before the final wicket was taken.

Following a nervy start at 23-2, Heywood took control of the game as Liam Mason (34) and Jayden Borg (41) scored high to set up a tight finale.

But Street's five-wicket haul, along with skipper Will Halton's 3-32 bowling figures ensured the visitors collapsed three runs short of the target.

Meanwhile, Edgworth continue to struggle in the GMCL top flight after they were downed by early front-runners Prestwich.

Captain Guy Haynes top scored with 45 not out in the middle-order as the Bolton Road side were bowled out for 103.

Sam Holden (4-32) and Wilf Reeve (3-34) impressed with the ball.

Prestwich were in unstoppable form in reply as opener James Wharmby (25) and Martin Walters (33) wrapped up the victory with seven wickets to spare.

In the First Division, Astley and Tyldesley lost to seventh-placed Elton.

Harrison Smyth scored 46 and wicketkeeper Daniel Lomax knocked 20 as Elton were bowled out for 136.

Skipper Jimmy Cutt was instrumental with the ball taking 5-27, and Chris Ware chipped in with three wickets for 17 runs.

At 71-3 the Gin Pit outfit were well in control of the tie, with opener Joel Brockley knocking 40 off 48 balls, but only David Harrison provided decent support with a score of 22.

With only three batsmen hitting double figures, Astley and Tyldesley collapsed under the tight bowling of Steve Filkins (5-36) and Harrison Smyth (3-3) to fall 17 runs short of the target.
