RAIN spoiled yet another day of cricket in Bolton on Saturday.

There was no play for any of the town's clubs, in either the Greater Manchester League or Bolton League.

But the washout did at least throw open the floodgates to the top 10 in the BCL.

Teams as far down as 15th in the table stood a chance of reaching the top division going into yesterday's penultimate round fixtures.

But it is Eagley in 10th who are precariously peaking one eye over their shoulder as clubs begin to prepare an assault on the top half.

Abandoned games have not fallen kindly for the Dunscar outfit, with two games against sides below them in the table called off in recent weeks.

Eagley skipper Asif Bhojani is happy with how his side has played this season but disappointed at missing those opportunities to add to their points tally.

“To be honest, I'm happy with how we've played this season,” he said. “Every game we have given it our all and most we should have won – we've played well.

“It is good experience for the lads, which will hopefully bode well for them next year.

“The last couple of games we were expecting to win, but the rain has allowed other teams to close in on us.”

Bhojani believes his team have what it take to play a part in next year's top flight, but he acknowledges it will be difficult when they come up against Farnworth in the season finale on Saturday.

He added: “We would be disappointed if we finish in the bottom half because it would mean next year we have to do a lot of work to get ourselves into the top division.

“If we do finish in the top division then we hope to compete at that level.

“Farnworth are a difficult team to face on the last game but we only lost by two runs the last time we faced them so the lads have faith.

“We will have to see how everyone comes to the game, but we will be looking for the win.”
