BOLTON cricketer Matt Parkinson has signed a two-year deal with Lancashire.

The spin bowler sealed the professional contract after a successful breakthrough season in which he took 10 wickets in four championship matches for the Red Rose county.

Parkinson, aged 19, made a stunning entrance into the county championship when he took six wickets on his debut against Warwickshire at Emirates Old Trafford, including the scalp of former England batsman Jonathan Trott.

The Markland Hill man, who went to Bolton School and Canon Slade sixth form college and will be going on the England Lions tour to Dubai this winter, also gained experience of the national side as a net bowler at Lord’s and Old Trafford ahead of the Test series against Pakistan.

It is his second deal in the last fortnight, having also signed to play for Bolton side Egerton in the Greater Manchester League next season.

He said of his Lancashire contract: “I couldn’t be happier to sign a new two-year deal.

"I’ve really enjoyed my first full season as a professional and to make my debut for the club against Warwickshire was pretty special.

“I’m looking forward to being involved in the Lions this winter and will be working hard on my game ahead of next season.”
