KEARSLEY captain Cameron Murray hailed a “massive” win for his side as they beat reigning Premiership champions and current league leaders Farnworth on Saturday and believes there is more to come from his side.

The Australian all-rounder was one of four batsmen to make it to 20 or beyond for the visitors at Bridgeman Park as, after electing to bat, they were bowled out for 137.

Murray made 20, opener Chris Baxendale 36, professional Imran Khalid 26 and Jack Berry 25. Dan Higham claimed 5-17 for Farnworth.

Murray then watched new-ball seamer Mohammad Jameel wreak havoc with 8-31 from 12 overs, bowling Simon Booth’s men out for just 60 inside 26 overs, consigning them to a second defeat in six.

This was Kearsley’s third win on the spin and fourth in six this season, with Murray, in his first campaign as skipper, hoping this can be a springboard for more successes.

“It was a very good effort from the lads,” he said. “It gives us a lot of confidence because we’ve scraped a couple of wins over the last couple of weeks (against Westhoughton and Lostock).

“To turn up and put a performance in like that, it’s massive for us.

“The wicket was absolutely fine. We were probably 70 or 80 short of where we wanted to be, but our bowlers did the work.

“Mo Jameel was awesome. There’s no other way to put it. They just couldn’t get on top of him.

“He bowled to his plans, and we managed to hold our catches off him.

"He was hitting the deck, and it was nipping off the seam both ways.

"But he put the ball in the right areas. Everything went for him.

“This is my second season here, and it’s probably one of the better wins we’ve had.

“With a low score, for the lads to show a bit of heart and get on top, I’d say it would be in the top two or three wins we’ve had during my time.”

Following his comments about being short with the bat, Murray continued: “It’s a good thing to be able to go back into the dressing room after a convincing win like that and know there’s still things we can work on.

“But if all we stick together, we can get some more wins like this.

"We still hope to finish up there. I’m sure we will do.”

Kearsley leapfrogged both Bradshaw and Farnworth Social Circle and sit fourth in the table, with Murray hailing a real team effort so far this summer.

He added: “People have stood up at different times, but our pro has been absolutely first class with the bat.

"Mo, all season, has bowled really well as well.

“We have the quarter-final of the Hamer Cup at home to Little Lever in two weeks and Horwich in the league next week as well as the Twenty20s.

"It’s the business end of the Hamer Cup, and it’s good to be in there competing.”
