DARREN Randolph could play again for the Shakers this season despite returning to Charlton Athletic.

Jim Provett is due to deputise in Saturday's game against Barnet but Alan Knill hopes to bring the Ireland Under-21 international back to Gigg Lane for the final three games of the season.

Randolph, who was due to stay until mid-May on an emergency loan, was recalled by Charlton boss Alan Pardew as cover for the suspended Nicky Weaver on Tuesday.

He will keep goal this weekend against Southampton at The Valley, but could soon be on his way back to the North-west if the Bury boss has his way.

"We have asked if we could loan him back and Charlton have intimated yes, but we will have to wait and see," Knill said.

"He will go and play on Saturday and hopefully come back for the last few weeks of the season. If not, then we go with Jim Provett."

Provett has not figured since Knill's first match in charge, a 3-2 defeat against Stockport County. He had played in all of the previous 37 games, and Knill had no qualms about calling on him again for the trip to Underhill.

"Jim has done a job before," he said. "I just thought we needed a change when I came in.

"He has got his chance and that is what football is about."

Efe Sodje has overcome a slight ankle knock to make the squad, otherwise, Knill has no further injury problems to contend with.

The Nigerian's form since arriving on loan from Gillingham, alongside that of Ben Futcher - who will retain the captain's armband in the suspended Paul Scott's absence - has meant no early return to action for Paul Morgan.

The former Lincoln skipper, himself a virtual ever-present until a thigh problem struck in early January, featured for the reserves in a penalty shootout defeat against Wigan Athletic in the Lancashire Senior Cup on Monday.

Knill said he will continue to monitor the Northern Irishman's fitness.

"I'm happy that Paul is back playing and training but he is no closer to a recall simply because of how well Efe and Ben have been doing," he said.

"Although I knew a bit about him, I haven't been able to see much of him because of illness and injury."

Barnet drew at Bradford in midweek with Adam Birchall's early strike cancelled out by Eddie Johnson at Valley Parade.

The Bees have drawn their last three games and could climb above the Shakers with a victory.
