WANDERERS have told Ben Amos he is free to find another club after leaving him behind on their two-game tour of Scotland.

The former Manchester United keeper spent most of last season at Cardiff City and has two years left on his contract at the Macron.

Phil Parkinson has told Mark Howard and Ben Alnwick they will be vying for the number one spot, with highly-rated youngster Jake Turner available as cover.

But Amos – still one of the squad’s highest earners – now looks to be the odd man out as Wanderers gear up for a new season in the Championship.

“We can’t carry four keepers so we’ve said to Ben, can we get him out on loan somewhere?” Parkinson told The Bolton News.

“The other two lads did well for us last year and it’s difficult not just in matches but even in training to make sure you can cover four goalkeepers.

“I will be taking the two senior lads – Mark Howard and Ben Alnwick – to Scotland with us and the other two will be missing out.”

Turner will remain with David Lee’s Under-23s for the next week but could be called upon quickly if either Howard or Alnwick picks up an injury against Arbroath tonight, or Dundee on Friday evening.

The squad travelled to a base near St Andrews on the east coast of Scotland yesterday after making a winning start to the summer at Chorley.

Parkinson has taken Swiss trialist Haris Tabakovic in the group and is also expected to look at one or two more free agents over the course of the week.

Though the early part of pre-season remains, in the manager’s eyes, an exercise in fitness, he is keen to press ahead with his recruitment plans.

“We gave the lads 45 minutes each at Chorley but we will go 60-30 for Arbroath and Friday will be the same,” he said. “I want things to step up a level. We need to start getting something extra in the squad. We are short in some areas and I’m sure people can see that. This squad is still a long way off being completed.”
