A SECOND-HALF super show by Jordan Cover finally gave Atherton Colls a league victory over their bogey side.

A longstanding jinx had seen the Alder Street men fail to beat Mossley in 17 attempts.

But Cover's hat-trick put that right on Saturday as a fifth game without defeat lifted Colls to sixth from bottom of Evo-Stik North.

The first half was an even affair with both teams playing some nice football despite the Kensite Stadium pitch cutting up.

Cover served notice of what was to come when he hit the near post with a shot from the wing while a close-range Mossley header narrowly missed the target.

Cover was clinical after the break. On 50 minutes a clearance from Black 'n Whites keeper Greg Hartley was misjudged by a defender and Cover capitalised on the mistake by racing clean through and finishing clinically.

Mossley continued to go forward but could not break through the dominant Colls' defence.

Cover doubled the lead with his second goal on 80 minutes when a one-two with Ben Hardcastle gave him space in the box to coolly slot home.

And five minutes later Cover killed off any hopes Mossley had of getting back into the game when he completed his second hat-trick of the campaign – his first ever in the Evo-Stik League.

Josh Messer produced a fine long ball for him to run onto and the striker rounded the keeper before side-footing home.

A goal conceded late in injury time could not take the gloss of a fine display .

Atherton LR are comfortably in mid-table in the Hallmark Security League after a 2-1 victory at Bacup Borough on Saturday.

An own goal gave them the lead a minute before the break but the home side hit straight back with an equaliser.

The winning goal came two minutes after the interval when Ben Giverin struck to secure the three points.

Daisy Hill remain bottom of the division after two goals in five minutes midway through the second half at Abbey Hulton United sentenced the New Sirs men to a 2-0 defeat.
