FILIPE Morais is Wanderers’ main injury worry as they look to complete a treble over Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow.

The in-form midfielder suffered a calf injury in the 1-1 draw at Reading in midweek and may have to sit out at Hillsborough.

Phil Parkinson could have a ready-made replacement in Sammy Ameobi if the former Newcastle United man recovers from a back problem which forced him to stay at home on Tuesday night.

“We need to look at him closely over the next couple of days,” said the Wanderers boss. “He got a kick on his back, which was sore, and it wasn’t a night to bring someone to Reading who wasn’t 100 per cent. We knew we had a couple of lads who were a little under-cooked, so we took the decision to leave him at home.

“When we go to Sheffield Wednesday it’s a case of looking at them, looking at the fitness of the lads who played at Reading, but most of all we have to produce a performance just as good.”

Wanderers are to be backed by a strong travelling contingent in South Yorkshire, with more than 1,500 tickets now sold.

Those who trekked to the Madejski Stadium in midweek saw the Whites employ a new 4-2-3-1 system and produce an encouraging performance. They did so, however, without two first-team mainstays this season – David Wheater and Josh Vela – who were rested.

Parkinson explained his decision to leave both players out of his matchday squad.

“Vela or Jem Karacan on the bench was a tough call but I thought Jem edged it because of his last two out of three performances,” Parkinson explained.

“I didn’t bring Wheats down because I didn’t want him to travel all the way down there and not to be on the bench.

“He can have a couple of good days training up there. It’s the way it is – we have to keep everyone refreshed.”

Wanderers have beaten Wednesday in the league and Carabao Cup this term, and could climb above the Owls with a third victory tomorrow.

More importantly they could put further distance between themselves and the bottom three – increasing their chances of survival.

“It would be nice to sit on holiday in the summer knowing we’re in the Championship – it would be great for everyone at the club,” Parkinson added. “Every point is vital.”
