RADCLIFFE Borough earned an away point in their Evo-Stik Division One North derby at Salford City on Saturday when Jake Pollard’s goal secured a 1-1 draw.
After the previous weekend’s win over Curzon Ashton, Boro went into the clash in positive mood.
And they had a great opportunity to take the lead after only 11 minutes when Ben Wharton was fouled inside the Salford box to earn a penalty.
The chance was squandered, however, when Matty Chadwick – who was crowned the club’s Young Player and Players’ Player of the Year the previous night – saw his spot-kick saved by City stopper Ritchie Branagan, son of former Wanderer Keith.
Borough remained in control but went behind just before half time when Jamie Rother netted for the hosts from the second penalty of the game.
Two changes at the interval saw Boro boss Kevin Glendon bring on Jamie Baguley and Pollard for Sam Freakes and Chadwick.
And it proved a good substitution when, with 14 minutes remaining, Pollard netted the leveller with a wonderful curling effort after good work from Wharton to tee him up.
Both teams tried to get a winning goal in the last 10 minutes but it proved elusive.
At the top end of the division, Ramsbottom United strengthened their play-off hopes with an impressive 4-0 win at fellow promotion candidates Mossley.
Two goals each for Lee Gaskell and Grant Spencer clinched three points which saw United leapfrog their hosts, who ended the game with nine men after two red cards, and Trafford into third spot with three games to go.
