Tempest, who went into the game a point ahead of their opponents, took the lead when striker Gary Barnes scored with a far-post volley from Jamie Hylton’s right-wing cross.

The home side equalised on the half hour, Nicky Fisher guiding a header across the goal from Clint McLoughlin’s cross.

After an even first half, Stoneclough took the upper hand and penned the visitors in for long periods.

Left-back Liam Ralph unleashed a thunderous long-range shot which rattled the bar and Fisher put Stoneclough ahead after neat interplay with fellow striker Matty Swailes.

Swailes extended the lead when he took Tom Walsh’s cross on his chest and then volleyed home expertly.

Tempest had Matty Carter and James Hamer sent off late on but responded strongly and pulled one back with a twice-taken penalty from Micky Hall.

Turton manager Neil Hart is confident his side will bounce back strongly from their poor start to the season.

The north Bolton side were unlucky not to come away with a point in a 3-2 defeat at third-placed Poulton Town.

The defeat leaves Turton one point and two places off the bottom, but Hart believes his side will pull away from their lowly position.

“We had a mad 20-minute period which cost us the game,” he said. “Apart from that we played well and we could have come away with a point in the end. It’s a difficult time at the moment but we’ll battle through it.

“We’ve got our number one striker, Dave Burrows, and our two regular central midfielders, Phil Johnson and James Marsden, coming back this week which will make us a lot stronger.”

Dave Hanlon pulled one back in the 65th minute with a quality free-kick curled into the corner and Turton then played the high-flyers off the park, only having a super left-foot volley from Mitchell Leece from the edge of the box to show for their dominance.

Eagley are one point above Turton, having played two games more, after going down 3-0 at home to bottom-of-the-table Dalton United.
