BOLTON Mets rugby league club are on a major recruitment drive ahead of their 20th anniversary season.

The club, which will be playing home games at Bolton Rugby Union Club's Avenue Street ground for the third successive season, are looking to bring in new people on and off the field.

After surviving many years of struggling for numbers, the Mets have had a strong player base for the last few years, establishing themselves as the only open-age rugby league team in the town.

They have grown sufficiently to be able to field a second team on occasions last season and are looking to do the same again.

Mets return to training tomorrow at Essa Academy, Lever Edge Lane, at 8pm and anybody interested in playing for them – either experienced players or beginners looking to give the sport a try, are welcome to join in.

Off the field they are looking to recruit several volunteers to help the club progress – an assistant coach and people to shoot videos of games, take photographs, maintain match statistics and write match reports.

The ideal candidate for the assistant coach's position will have, or be working towards, a level two coaching qualification, have experience of playing rugby league and possibly coaching experience.

They will be working alongside the player/coach to help during training sessions, advise and have an opinion on team selection and to perform match day duties.

Anyone interested in any of the positions can contact club secretary Stuart Cooke on 07912 287243.
