BOLTON Triathlon Clun juniors were put through their paces during three weekends in Blackpool for the first junior triathlons of the year.

Marcus Dey was back to his winning ways in the T3 age group finishing a minute and a half ahead of second-placed Shea Hannam from Lancaster. Jasmin de Goede in T1, Joseph Hopley in T2 and Tim de Goede in the Youth category completed their first ever triathlons and acquitted themselves well.

Meanwhile, Georgia Heath came seventh in T2 and is doing well in the overall standings for the season so far. Max and Harry Davies, Amelia Rose and Rebecca Taylor also took part.

Another event was staged on May 17 – the NW junior club relays.

A total of 51 teams took part and each had to complete four back-to-back half-distance triathlons.

Bolton Tri fielded six teams with a total of 22 athletes and used the occasion to give valuable experience to new members.

It proved to be a bit chaotic for the runners and riders but turned out to be all good fun.

The best results were recorded by the BTC Tsunamis which was the first mixed two boy and two girl team in the T3 category.

It included Melissa Thompson, Rebecca Taylor, Charlie Jones and Robbie Jackson.

The BTC Seals also came first in the Tristart category for eight-year-olds.

Lincoln Johnson, Jack Riding and Ella Fallows were in action during their first event.

On May 31st, the Blackpool Aquatics Tri Squad held their triathlon festival aimed at giving everyone the opportunity to take part.

There was something for everyone from short distance triathlons for adults, junior triathlons, events for paratriathletes and aquathons, duathlons and aquabikes for any age.

The Aquabike was a rare event consisting of a swim followed by a bike ride then another swim, so a good one if you don’t like running.

Rowan Kane and Jonah Harrison gave it a go and claimed spots on the podium finish second and third respectively.

Sam Brooks, Nina Carter, Rebecca Taylor, Melissa Thompson, George Walton, Robbie Jackson, Joseph Hopley, Jamine de Goede and Tim de Goede also competed in the junior triathlons.

Peter Kane and Christine Holden competed in the adult sprint triathlons and it was Christine’s first triathlon.

A spokesman for the club said: "Christine used to bring her daughter to the club but then decided to improve her swimming and running, buy a bike and do one herself.

"She was nervous beforehand but over the moon to finish her first event and was actually in second position amongst the women."
