MOORSIDE B maintained their 100 per cent start to their Bolton Badminton League campaign with a convincing 14-4 victory at home to Westhoughton E.

Their second straight win, following up an equally comfortable victory against Moorside C, kept them top of Section D.

Westhoughton E’s second couple Gill Crompton and Geoff Everitt put the visitors on the scoresheet when they shared the opening games, winning a closely contested first game 22-20 against Lynne Bernard and Jamie Belton, who took the second 21-17.

Moorside’s second pair of Pam Leivesley and Andrew Yates won both their games 21-12, 21-9, against Louise Vernon and Robert Brenton.

And their experienced partnership of Amanda Bracegirdle and Alan Parkinson claimed both matches against youngster Bethany Hughes and Dave Edwards, winning 21-18, 21-8.

Although Moorside secured victories in the remainder of the mixed games and swept the board in the ladies' matches, they were all won by close scores.

The first pair of men’s games were shared when Moorside’s Parkinson and Belton won 21-15 before Edwards and Brenton claimed the second for Westhoughton 21-14.

The final two games of the match gave Westhoughton some reward with the determined pair of Edwards and Everitt beating Parkinson and Yates 21-18, 21-15.

The defeat left Westhoughton E in fourth place after they won their opening match against bottom side Metropolitan C.

Elsewhere in Section D, Forrest F bounced back from an opening defeat to Roe Green with a hard-fought 10-8 victory at home to Smithills A.

The first couple for both sides won their opening games, with Forrest's Elaine Powers and youngster Matt Latham claiming 21-14 and 21-13 victories against Chris Everitt and Barry Hilton – Smithills second pair – and Lorraine Shepherd and Malcolm Rolfe beating Forrest's Ann Schofield and youngster Joe Spencer 21-12, 21-19.

Forrest nudged back in front when their third pair Linda Rigby and Ray Schofield won 21-8 and 21-15 against Diane Leigh and Tony Sames before Powers and Latham won the battle of the first couples, beating Smithills' Shepherd and Rolfe 21-9 and 21-16.

But Smithills clawed back the scores to 6-4 when Everitt and Hilton won the battle of the second pairs, beating Schofield and Spencer 21-16, 21-14.

Leigh and Shepherd then levelled the match after winning the first pair of ladies’ games – 21-11, 21-12 – against Rigby and Powers.

Forrest fought back to win the next three games before Leigh and Everitt won the final ladies' game 21-18.

The home side finally secured victory in the last men's match when Schofield and Spencer beat Sames and Hilton 21-9 before the Smithills side claimed a consolation, winning the last game 21-17.
