BOLTON Metro Swim Squad were well-represented at both the British Summer and English National Championships held recently at Pond s Forge Swimming Centre in Sheffield.

The countries best 'age-group' swimmers took part in a fortnight of highly competitive swimming and the Metro swimmers performed fantastically with some personal best swims and a number of swimmers improving their entry rating.

Arran Bostock, Anna Doughty and Tom Gibbs all competed at the British Championships.

Gibbs finished fourth in the 50m butterfly (17/18) in a personal best time, while Doughty (16th) just missed out of the final in the 50m breast and also competed in the 50m freestyle and 100m breast and Bostock (16) competed in the 200 back.

There was further success a week later at the English National Age Group Championships with Mariette Braithwaite, aged 15, Jack Dandy, aged 17, James Oxborrow, aged 17 and the Men’s 4x100 Free Relay competing.

The highlight was a silver medal for Oxborrow in the 50m Free and a personal best in qualifying and again in the final.

He also finished sixth in the 100m Free and the 50m Back with a further PB.

James was also part of the 4 x100m Freestyle relay team which smashed their PB and also qualified for the final. His team mates were Sam Atkinson, Andy Bolton and Jack Dandy.

Dandy also recorded a PB in his 50m Free heat.

Braithwaite was one of the youngest qualifiers in the 100m Breast and she performed fantastically in her first ever National event.

Metro are now looking forward to an exciting few months with an overseas competition in St Dizier France and a swim camp for all swimmers at Rossall School in October.
