ATHERTON Collieries return to league football tomorrow when they travel to AFC Blackpool in the North West Counties Premier Division.
Michael Clegg's men were in cup action last weekend, winning through to the second round of the FA Vase with a 2-0 victory at home to Northern League side Newcastle Benfield.
That win set up a second round clash at home to NWCL First Division side Chadderton, which will be played on the weekend of November 21.
Before then, Colls will resume their league campaign looking to improve on their eighth place in the table with victory at second-bottom Blackpool.
Coach Andy Heald will be hoping Mark Truffas will continue his fine form after scoring twice against Newcastle on his 100th appearance for the club.
“Mark was tremendous and really it should have been four or five in the end," he said.
“But we are really happy with the win and with the clean sheet."
Colls may be able to pick up some tips from neighbours Atherton LR ahead of their next match in the FA Vase.
LR returned to winning ways in the NWCL First Division at the weekend with a 3-1 win at home to Chadderton – their first win in eight matches in all competitions which moved them above their opponents into 12th place in the table.
LR travel to Rochdale Town in the second round of the Reusch First Division Cup tomorrow, while Daisy Hill entertain Litherland REMYCA at the same stage of the competition, no doubt eager to bounce back after suffering two straight defeats.
