BOLTON Men's 1st XI climbed to sixth in the North West League Division Three North with a resounding 4-0 victory at Didsbury 4th XI.

Two goals from Damien Pearse and one each for Rob Davies and Tom White killed off the challenge of their hosts who are only two places below Bolton in the table.

Davies put Bolton ahead with a well-worked goal after just five minutes and Pearse doubled the lead 10 minutes later from a penalty corner.

It became three five minutes before half time when Pearse struck again.

Bolton remained in complete control throughout the second half but were unable to capitalise on a glut of chances until White put the gloss on the scoreline 10 minutes from time.

The men's 2nd team produced a brilliant 3-0 victory to inflict a first defeat of the season on main title rivals Didsbury 5th XI.

A hat-trick by John Woods felled the leaders to leave Bolton snapping at their heels in second place in North West League Division Five North/South.

The local lads bounced back from their first defeat of the season the previous week to inflict the same treatment to top-of-the-table Didsbury.

In a tight and lively first half Bolton had the better of the chances but could not convert their chances.

The second half started as the first half finished with Bolton defending brilliantly and minimising the away team's shots on goal while pressing high up the pitch.

The deadlock was broken 15 minutes into the second half with a well-worked short corner routine that striker Woods struck into the bottom corner.

Bolton continued to press and won a penalty stroke which Woods converted and as Bolton continued with their relentless workrate and sharp play in tricky conditions Woods completed his hat-trick with a goal assisted by Tom Underwood's impressive wing play.

The win puts Bolton two points within the top spot and maintains their perfect home run of wins and clean sheets for the season.

In the same division there was also a victory for ninth-placed Bolton 3rd XI who beat Didsbury 6th XI 3-1.

A young Bolton team came back from a goal down to establish themselves with good work from Sam Williams, Andy Hill and Umer Mohammad.

A break on the right flank saw a cross driven into the net by Will Bailey on the far post.

With the introduction of Matt Chowdhury into Bolton's midfield and man-of-the-match Luke Hallsall showing his skills, the youngsters started to force the pace with cutting passes and an increasing short-corner count.

Mohammad put them ahead ahead with a reverse-stick shot and Mark Woodward sealed the victory with a superb shot from a short corner.

Bolton Ladies' 1st XI remain bottom of North League Division One after a battling 3-1 defeat to to third-placed Didsbury Greys Ladies 1st XI.

Bolton started strongly with forward June Fenton making great runs.

Didsbury who took the lead on 15 minutes and Fenton equalised just before half time, roofing the ball with a powerful strike.

Bolton started the second half strong but were unfortunate to concede a second goal from a turnover and great bit of fast link-up play.

The goal disheartened Bolton and Didsbury grew in confidence, adding a third late on and denied more by some fantastic saves by Sian Creely and an incredible stick save by Katie Bent in the top left-hand corner.

Bolton Ladies' 2nd XI edged their all-division clash with higher division side Didsbury 3rd XI 3-2.

Jenny Brookfield scored twice and Bolton started with a one-goal handicap due to their opponents being one division higher than them in Greater Manchester Hockey Association Division One.

Brookfield put Bolton ahead with a great team goal and doubled the lead with a superb piece of individual skill from a tight angle.

Didsbury were level with two well-worked short corners in 10 minutes before half time.

A quick turnaround at half time ensured no momentum was lost and both teams pressed on.

Bolton defended well, and the D was being attacked frequently, but they held off Didsbury to finish worthy winners.
