IT was a memorable double for Merritt father and daughter, Adrian and Izzy, at Saturday's landmark 250th Bolton parkrun.

As the popular weekly event celebrated the milestone number, dad and daughter had their own reasons to be cheerful.

Adrian was taking part in his last-ever parkrun in the 35-39 age group and celebrated his 40th birthday by running the course in a pink high-vis vest marking the occasion.

Izzy, meanwhile, was the first female to cross the finish line – quite an incredible achievement considering she is only TEN!

She completed the course in 32nd position in a time of 22mins 12secs on her 52nd parkrun appearance.

Her dad was one place in front, clocking a second faster on his 65th run.

Bolton parkrun had a surge of interest this week with an impressive 290 runners taking advantage of the rare decent weather and comparatively good conditions after some of the challenging surfaces underfoot of the last few weeks.

Finlay Coyne crossed the line for the 200th time this week, Carolyn Barker for the 50th time and junior runner Ethan Wallace for 10th.

There was also an excellent turnout of volunteers, the 25 who made Saturday's event possible being the highest total turnout at Leverhulme Park since September 5.

Twenty two runners took part for the first-time, 34 recorded new personal best times and representatives of 27 different athletics clubs took part.

As if one milestone in the form of the 250th event isn't enough, Bolton parkrun has a real biggie coming up a week on Saturday when it celebrates its fifth anniversary.

Runner of the week: Adrian Merritt for giving everyone a giggle with his pink vest.
