THE Bolton Parks Veterans Bowling Association's Fraser-Huyton Pairs tournament was won by a team from Longsight Park, courtesy of five unanswered points late in the day.

Mick Howard and Les Fishwick were the victors, with a 15-10 win against fellow Longsight bowler Mick Hilton and his partner Alan Parker from Tonge Park, the club hosting the event.

The match play was exciting with a number of pairings coming from way back to win. A number of pairings didn't get a look-in so there was a mixture of extremely long games and some very short ones.

After the final teams had knocked out the duo of Mike Bailey (Tonge Park) and John Hilton (Darbishire Park) and Egerton Park pair Howard Boyd and Martin Walton in the semi-finals, the early stages of the final went Howard and Fishwick's way.

Hilton and Parker pegged them back and the middle portion of the match was nip-and-tuck until the scores reached 10-10.

A late spurt then saw Howard and Fishwick home.
