THE Harriers have been continuing a great year of first places with more this week at trail races, with Gareth Booth winning at Astley Park and Richard Howarth taking first place at Cuerden Valley.

Back on the fells at Lostock AC’s Henderson’s End fell race, Nick Leigh was beaten to the top place by Salford Harriers’ Gary Priestley but one of the highlights for club members and other supporters at the race was the sight of Lindsey Brindle, badly injured a month ago in a road collision, spectating and presenting the prizes, including to Suzanne Budgett and John Parker for category wins.

Horwich's juniors continue to deliver the goods as, at Astley Park, Harriers filled four of the top 10 places with Lewis Wilkes this time missing out on top spot by only three seconds.

Nathan Lancaster, Luke Brindle and Matthew Flatters finished seventh, eighth and ninth. Wilkes also set a new personal best at Bolton parkrun where, as an under 14-year-old, he finished third overall.

Another of RMI’s rising stars, 12-year-old Milly Lever, ran the Abersoch Beach 3k and was rewarded with a podium position in a race of over 280 runners. Milly’s time of 13:53 was only 30 seconds behind the adult winner.

Not to be outdone the vets also continue to turn out good results, including Tony Hesketh in the annual Grasmere Gallop where he finished 20th and was first V65 in a time almost two minutes quicker than he ran two years ago. Gordon Stone, now in the V60 category, completed his first 100-mile challenge event in Dorset.

Horwich had the first runner home at three parkruns this week, Lukas Siska at Haigh Woodlands, Paul Muller at Lytham Hall and Gareth Booth at Cuerden Valley, where Richard Howarth was second, following his trail race win there earlier in the week.
