NEW rounders team JH Booth Warriors do not want the best, they want the rest.

Jamie Holmes-Brown set up the side for mums like her, or youngsters still at school, who have bags of enthusiasm for the sport but are not confident enough about their ability to join a more well-established team.

The Warriors are playing in their first season in Section N of the BSF Rounders League and wear their underdogs tag as a badge of honour after so far losing every match by an innings.

Results are well down the list of priorities for founder Holmes-Brown, who is intent on adding to the club's ranks of happy novices to establish a second team next season.

At the moment, the 20 members play in one open age team, but the aim is to set up a youth side for girls aged nine to 17, as well as a senior team.

In a bid to boost their numbers, JH Booth Warriors, who have just signed a sponsorship deal with Wilson's Autos, will be holding an open day at Bolton Cricket Club on Sunday, July 17.

"My mum first took me down to play rounders and I have played for a handful of different clubs over the years," Holmes-Brown explained.

"Even though I am quite an experienced player, I have felt intimidated in the past when first joining a new club.

"They are often very tight-knit, and everyone will be of a similar ability.

"So I wanted to create a team that was different - one where any player of any ability would be made to feel welcome.

"It's really about the social side of things first and foremost, from mums who maybe have not played since school to children who love to play but are not picked for their school team.

"Basically, no matter how bad you may feel like you are, you will find a home with us."

The open day, run in conjunction with another new team, Dynisty Morris Dance Troupe, will be held from 10.30am and will feature matches throughout the day, as well as a bouncy castle, stalls, refreshments, morris dancing and a DJ.

Warriors play at Bolton St Catherine's Academy, training at the school on Mondays and on Leverhulme Park on Sundays.
