HORWICH took the first seven places at the Walsh Two Lads fell race in a magnificent result for the club, especially as the race attracted a very good field of 164 runners on a sultry evening.

Michael Cayton and Nick Leigh set the pace, closely followed by Danny Hope, with Cayton emerging triumphant to lead the club to an historic result.

Club chairman Peter Ramsdale said that 2016 has seen a lot of "never happened before" events for the Harriers and that the runners are getting their rewards for a hard winter’s endurance training.

The spirit of the club was also epitomised by Ed Swift who, in finishing last, was pleased that with his help the club managed to secure not only first but also last place.

Elsewhere in the region there were very good performances by the Harriers including Gareth Booth adding another first place to his record this summer, with a win in the 10-mile Windmill race. In Rochdale Harriers' annual three-day event five-time winner Rob Jackson, in his 17th consecutive run in the race, finished ninth overall. Paul Boardman, also a regular in the series, was 16th overall.

Joe Mercer followed up his win in the recent NHS and Bolton Council triathlon with third place in the Two Towers fell race.

In the Queens Park junior parkrun Matthew Flatters was first home and Alyssia Jackson was third place overall and the first female home.

At Bolton parkrun Lukas Siska was first home as he racked up another fast finish.

At Pennington Flash, 12-year-old Milly Lever was first female home.

In a great feat of endurance Josie Greenhalgh completed the renowned Bob Graham Round, with its 66-mile route over 42 Cumbrian mountain summits and 27,000 feet of ascent, all in less than 24 hours. Very few runners have achieved this and Josie will have shared her triumph with a great team of supporters on the ground from the Harriers and other clubs.
