A GROUP of 46 Burnden members dominated the start line of the latest Astley 4.4-mile trail race in Chorley, making up a fifth of the field and scoring several successes.

George Butler led the contingent home in 31st place overall with a time of 28mins 9secs with Lee White next to finish in 28:31.

Andy Staveley was first V55 in 28:34, just over a minute ahead of Paula Pilling who was first F40 and second lady home in 29:41.

Liz McLellan was first F45 and fourth lady in 30:31, Lesley Fisher finished top again of the L55 group with a time of 32:21 and Finlay Coyne was first V65 in 34:43.

Shirley Staveley was second L50, crossing the finish in 34:04 with Anne Ferguson second L55 posting 34:35. Phil Glassbrook was second V70 in 39:40.

Lyndsay Darbyshire came home third L45 in 32:14 and Paul Christie third V60 with 33:15.

Two Burndeners took on the tough Hoad Hill Marathon in Ulverston with a demanding route through the breathtaking scenery of the South Lakes.

Jackie Oakes, who was tackling her first marathon, and experienced ultra runner Lorraine Halwood completed the demanding course in 59th and 60th place overall in an identical time of 5:18:42.

Five members travelled to Burnley to take part in the 6.8-mile Worsthorne Moor Trail Race – and it was the ladies who delivered the prize-winning performances.

Lesley Fisher was first F55 in 54:49 with Isaline Pollitt first F50 in 58:25.

Martyn Pollitt was the fastest of the five, crossing the finish in 52:17, with Don Nichol dipping under the hour to come home in 59:20. Dave Pearson completed the Burnden interest with a time of 1:06:20.

Phil Eccleston took part in two races in Devon during his family holiday.

He came fourth in the Run Exeter 5K with a time of 16:44 and followed that up at the weekend with fifth place in the Totnes 10K, posting a time of 38:03.

Lawrence McDonald was the club’s sole representative at the Blackpool Airshow 10K, crossing in a great time of 48:11.

Tim Taylor put in a fantastic performance at the London Triathlon, finishing the Olympic distance event 28th M55-59 out of 79 and well up in the first half of finishers with a combined time of 2:51:51.

He swam the 1500m swim in 33:43 and covered the 40K bike course in 1:16:15 before finishing with a 10.5K run time of 53:48.
