A SUPERB second-innings display from Wally Dollys clinched victory in the final of the Blackburn Shield at Little lever CC on Friday.

Section G leaders Wallys Dollys took on Bishops Ladies, who head the section below.

Wallys Dollys batted first and ran up a first-innings score of 124, largely thanks to Cortney Kirby who contributed 41, including three rounders.

Dawn Wallbank scored none from her first round, but punished Bishops by going on to score 18 before being hit out on her 16th round.

Keeley Hawksworth was the only other batter to reach double figures, scoring 15 before being caught out on the next round, but she scored 11 after escaping with two consecutive zeros.

Undeterred, despite losing two batters first time round, Bishops put in an impressive innings to finish on 112, just a dozen runs adrift.

Louise Holroyd scored two rounders to be top scorer with 25 while Kim Holcroft (19) and Beckie Vause (15) were denned together. Holcroft included a rounder in her total, as did Sue Torkington.

Going into the second innings with a slender lead, the Dollys were determined not to let the prize slip from their grasp, despite losing four batters in the first two rounds. Kirby again led the way with a magnificent 38, including two rounders, ably supported by Shelby Evans (33) with two rounders, and last batter Temprey Kirby, also with two rounders, who was denned for 32.

This amazing performance by the three batters, who batted 19 times, took Wallys Dollys to 145 for the innings and 269 for the match.

Having stated their intent, the Dollys reduced Bishops to just three batters after three rounds and although these three put up a valiant fight, only Beckie Vause scored a rounder before being denned for 12 runs.

Joanne Gardiner, with 11, was the only other batter to reach double figures and Kayleigh McClarence finished with eight, taking the total to 51 for the innings and 163 for the game, leaving Wallys Dollys as comfortable 269-163 winners.

The Dixon Shield final at Darcy Lever Cricket Club on Friday promises to be a tight match as Spring Green XI, the joint leaders in Section D, meet Section E leaders Stoneclough Ladies.

Mary Harrison will be the match referee.
