LIZ McLellan put in a great run at the Pennington Flash 5-Mile Trail Race, crossing the line fourth female finisher and taking first spot in the L45 category.

She led Burnden’s ladies home in 33mins 49secs, one of several prize-winning performances on the day.

Andy Staveley was first V55 and 25th overall in 31:28 with Lesley Fisher first L55 and the eighth female finisher in 34:49.

Lee White was the first Burndener to finish, coming 22nd overall in 31:01.

Jackie Oakes claimed second place in the L40 category with a time of 38:58, while Lucille Corrigan was second L45 in 39:48 and Sue Blackman second L55 in 51:02.

Shirley Staveley was third L50 in 38:25, Katy Thompson third L40 in 39:29 and Jackie Roberts third L60 in 45:27.

Maggie Slamin, on her first run as a Burnden member, clocked 43:39.

Karen Taylor registered the fastest Burnden time in the West Lancs Summer Triathlon at Edge Hill University.

The popular event involves a 400m pool swim, a 20km bike ride and 5km run.

Taylor was out of the water in 14:38, made good time on the bike with a time of 42:02 and followed it up with 28:25 for the run for a combined total of 1:31:11.

Diane Morrison was quickest in the pool, posting a swim time of 12:09. Her 46:07 for the bike and 27:46 for the run gave her a total of 1:32:26.

Julie Newton was just 25 seconds adrift of Diane’s time, registering 13:23 for the swim, 46:15 for the bike and 27:52 for the run to give her a total of 1:32:51.

A swim time of 13:08 got Gillian McGowan off to a great start. A time of 50:38 on the bike and 36:58 for the run gave her a total of 1:50:13.
