BURNDEN’S ladies dominated again at the Swinton 10-Mile Road Race, taking six of the first nine finishing places and coming first and second in the team standings.

Liz McLellan was the first female finisher in the race with a personal best of 69mins 35secs with Paula Pilling the second female runner to complete the course and claim first F40 close behind in 69:58, also a PB.

Anne Ferguson completed a one-two-three for the club’s women in the race, finishing third overall and first F55 in a time of 78:16.

The only team to come close to them was the Burnden trio of Shirley Staveley, Katy Thompson and Jane Forrest. Staveley was first F50 and fifth female runner to finish in 79:28, with Thompson and Forrest crossing in the same time of 80:30 in eighth and ninth place. Thompson was third F45 and Forrest third F50.

Rob Short led the men’s contingent home, finishing 14th overall in a PB of 64:20, closely followed by Lee White seven seconds later, fourth M40 in 64:27.

Andy Staveley was second M55 in 65:57 and his time, along with Short and White’s, earned Burnden third place in the men’s team standings.

Other category successes included Keith Thomas, third M55 in 66:41, Linda O’Byrne third F40 in 84:56 and Lucille Corrigan fourth F45 in 81:12, one of several PBs for club members.

Laurence Keighley (71:35), Christophe Menand (71:59), Paul Duke (73:30), Nadia Raza (94:21), Sue Blackman (1:45:05) and Gillian McGowan (1:59:55) all registered personal bests over the distance.

Three members travelled to Inverness for the Loch Ness Marathon. With one eye on the water (just in case), Trevor and Julie Fishwick along with Jeff Pendlebury tackled the tough course.

Trevor was first Burndener home in 4hrs 19mins 24secs, with Pendlebury next in 4:44:07 and Julie registering 5:10:42.

Three members were in Yorkshire for the Stainland 10K Trail Race in Halifax.

Lesley Fisher finished the tough route in 18th overall and second female finisher in 54:20, with Dave Pearson the next to cross the line in 74:20. Peter Whiteside completed the club’s representation with a time of 82:17.

Ann Butler and Ged Tanner took part in the Fleetwood Tri, a popular triathlon event on the coast with a 400m pool swim, followed by a 12-mile bike ride and 5K run.

Butler completed the swim in 10:19, took 51:33 on the bike and finished off with a 27:41 run for a total time of 1:29:32. Tanner recorded a total time of 1:21:46.
