HORWICH Hockey Club ladies stormed to victory in the Greater Manchester All Division Cup against Didsbury Northern’s sixth team.

The local ladies did not need the 1-0 advantage they received due to their opponents being a division higher as they went goal crazy in a 7-2 home victory, 8-2 on aggregate.

Horwich got off to a flying start after five minutes when Donna Vinten fed Zoe Bluer who scored with a lovely reverse stick shot.

Helen Roocroft then assisted for Vinten to make it 2-0 before Roocroft turned goalscorer with two strikes, the first set up by Jeanette Brew.

Didsbury then made a game of it as they hit back with two goals to go into the break 4-2 behind.

Horwich started the second half where they left off the first with Roocroft completing her hat-trick, and Brew made it 6-2 with a deflection at the far post for her first goal of the season.

Becks Morrissey then had the final word as she scored the last goal of the game, converting Roocroft’s cross into the D.

Horwich men also had a resounding victory to go seventh in Division Five North/South.

Tony Sanderson and David Whiteside scored two goals each as Horwich hammered Fylde’s second team 7-0 at home.

Horwich dominated from start to finish, pressuring the visitors from the first whistle and going ahead through Sanderson.

He made it two, finally converting at the third time of asking after the visiting keeper kept out two shots from a short corner.

Horwich went 3-0 up just before half time when more good approach play finished with Sanderson crossing for Dave Fox to slot home.

Andy Robertson made it four when he converted with an unstoppable strike from a short corner before Whiteside grabbed his first.

Horwich rammed home their superiority with Paul Buckland getting on the scoresheet with a fine strike.

And the local lads were still not finished with Whiteside striking again to complete the scoring in an accomplished performance.
