GEORGE Ramm produced a flawless display to clinch his first British wrestling title in his home town.

The 20-year-old Sharples Wrestling Club member won all three of his bouts in the 57kg division without conceding a point.

He beat Muhammad Mokaev, of Wigan and Leigh, 10-0 in the semi-finals and Bolton Olympic Wrestling Club's Anatoliy Porogovskyy by the same scoreline in the final.

Harwood-based Ramm, who wrestles professionally in the German Bundesliga, was the only senior wrestler from the town to win gold at the championships, which were held at Smithills Leisure Centre.

But a contingent of 31 wrestlers from the town's two major clubs – 12 from Sharples and 19 from BOWC – picked up a combined total of 26 medals, including a senior bronze in the women's section and 11 gold, nine silver and three bronze in the junior competitions.

"I felt great in every way," said Ramm, after adding his first senior British title to his two English titles.

"Every match went perfectly to plan. It's nice to see all the hard work paying off.

"I'm putting in so much work over here (in Germany) so it's nice to see the results."

Ramm has a contract to wrestle for Dutch side KSV Simpson in the third tier of the Bundesliga until December this year.

He is living with girlfriend Jessica Blaszka, who wrestled for the Dutch team at the Rio Olympics, and training full time with the German national team.

"To compete in front of my girlfriend, family and friends was amazing," Ramm added. "It always gives me confidence and it's nice to put on a show for the Bolton wrestling community.

"It was also the first qualification for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, so I'm getting closer."

Ramm's coach as a junior, Eddy Kavanagh, founder of Sharples Wrestling Club and manager of England's Commonwealth Games team, was impressed by his performance.

"George wrestled very well and with great control," he said. "He showed some great wrestling skills in attack and defence.

"Wrestling in the German Bundesliga on a weekly basis is obviously paying dividends and he is improving nicely."

Ramm was one of seven Sharples wrestlers to win gold. The club also picked up three silver and three bronze.

As well as Porogovskyy's senior silver, BOWC went home with five golds, seven silver and a bronze.
