MANNY Road beat Westhoughton 4-1 in one of only two Bolton at Home Sunday League Division Two matches to go ahead.
Westhoughton started strongly but Manny Road went ahead on 15 minutes when Tom Helsby nipped in ahead of the keeper, knocked it round him and slotted home from a tight angle.
Ten minutes later the lead was doubled when Jack Baker chased down the Westhoughton keeper from a short-back pass and the attempted clearance hut him and flew in.
In the second half, Westhoughton started better and Billy Worthington was on hand to make a double save.
Westhoughton finally got the goal their play deserved when they halved the deficit and then hit the bar twice as they looked to get level.
But they were hit with a sucker punch on the break when Manny Road’s Xavier Close hammered home after good work on the right by Charlie Helsby.
And they netted a fourth in the last minute when Lee Hemmings slotted the ball through the keeper’s legs.
In the other Division Two clash, Newbury won 7-1 at Lostock thanks to goals from Theo Myers, Brent Helliwell (two), Charlie Scholes (two), Tomas Cohen and Jay Smith. Lostock’s reply came from Josh Charleston.
