CANON Slade retained the junior boys' and inter girls' titles at the Bolton Schools Swimming Championship.

The junior boys ran out winners by 11 points in front of Bolton School and set three new town records at the event held at Bolton One.

Harry Robinson set the scene for success when he won the 50m backstroke in a time of 32.24secs.

Jake Reynolds followed up with first place and a new record time of 34.56 in the breaststroke and then made it a personal double triumph in the butterfly, clocking 31.10.

Sam Murphy was fourth in the final individual event, the freestyle.

In the medley relay, the team of Josh Aubery (backstroke), Reynolds (breaststroke), Robinson (butterfly) and Murphy (front crawl) produced a devastating performance to win in a new championship record of 66.19, beating the old record – set by Bolton School in 2002 – by 0.34.

The boys were still not finished and set another town record in the freestyle relay, Dan Gregory, Cassius Heys, Tom Gillard and Zach Walmsley shaving 1.32 off the old record which has been held by Bolton School since 2003.

The record-breaking performance means Canon Slade now hold all the Bolton schools swimming records at the junior boys age group.

The inter boys came second overall with Bolton School taking a well-deserved first place by four points.

Gabe Glynn won the butterfly in 30.32 and Kieron Shaw, Daniel Lowe, George Walton and George Johnson. came second in the freestyle relay in 58.93.

The junior girls also came second behind Bolton School. Finishing runner-up in their events were Ruby Meadows in the breaststroke (46.11), Ellie Williams in the freestyle (32.57), the medley relay team of Lauren Fry (backstroke), Lucy Wright (breaststroke), Jasmine Patel (butterfly) and Ellie Williams (front crawl) in 1:14.49, and Summer Standing, Helena Lathwell-Watts, Amy Cook and Eva Baldwin in the freestyle relay (68.36).

The inter girls, who competed at the English Schools Swimming finals in November, finished first ahead of Bolton School.

Tallulah Hughes was second in the backstroke in 35.52 before Chelsea Crabtree won the breaststroke in 36.38.

Abigail Harrop was second in the butterfly in 32.85 then Alisha Hogan came first in the front crawl in 29.65.

Chelsea Crabtree (backstroke), Tallulah Hughes (breaststroke), Abigail Harrop (butterfly) and Alisha Hogan (front crawl) won the medley relay in 65.96, and Eryka Hayes, Lindsay Jackson, Emily Corbett and Jenny Corbett repeated the feat in the freestyle relay in 62.64.

The next target for the team is the English Schools North West regional finals in September where they will be looking to qualify for the English Schools finals in London.

The senior girls were joint winners of the Bolton championship with Bolton School. Maya Erzan-Essien won the front crawl, and Zoe Harley was first in the breaststroke event while the team, also consisting of Bella Chesney and Olivia Lowe, won the freestyle relay and were second in the medley relay.
