TEMPEST United warmed up for tonight’s Richardson Cup semi-final with an impressive 2-1 win at Premier Division high-flyers Fulwood Amateurs.

It was a second successive win for Ross McNair’s side after their 1-0 Hospital Cup triumph against Turton.

And winning against a side that had won 10 of 14 home games prior to Saturday can only boost confidence at Tempest, according to assistant boss Gary Westhead.

He told The Bolton News: “As you’d expect it was a tough game against a team third in the league and very good at home.

“But we started well and could have been two or three goals up in the first half, Nathan Monson hitting the bar and their keeper making some good saves.

“We wondered if it was going to be one of those days but we got the breakthrough on 70 minutes through Luke Skelly’s tap-in.

“Nathan made it 2-0 a couple of minutes later but they got one back to make it a nervy 10 minutes.

“But we held out for a good win as not many go to Fulwood and beat them on what is a big pitch.

“It has taken us over 40 points for the first time in the Premier Division and sets us up nicely for the semi-final.”

Elsewhere, Eagley were without a game but Turton went down 3-2 at Whitehaven despite a brace from Luke Bradbury.

They host leaders Longridge Town next, tomorrow night.

In Division One, Stoneclough scored a last-gasp winner at GSK Ulverston Rangers through Joe McCann after Sam brooks had earlier made it 1-1.

However, CMB lost 2-1 at Hawcoat Park while Ladybridge were not in action.
