BURNDEN claimed four age group wins at the Bluebell 10-Mile Trail Race in Halifax.

The club had three of the top-four places in the F55 category, which was won by Lesley Fisher in 1hr 27mins 36secs.

Anne Ferguson was second F55 in 1:30:32 and Gwen Kinloch fourth in 1:34:21.

Isaline Pollitt secured the F50 prize in 1:33:05, while Keith Thomas (1:20:55) and Mel Walker (1:43:46) topped the M55 and M70 classes respectively.

Rob Short was 10th overall and first Burndener to finish, posting a time of 1:13:41.

He led a trio of members who finished together. Marcus Taylor was 11th and third M45 in 1:14:19, one place ahead of Mark Swannell who was third M40 in 1:14:27.

Paul Duke’s 1:17:32 made sure there were four runners in the top 20 finishers, finishing just ahead of Lee White who was 21st in 1:17:57.

Paula Pilling was the club’s first female finisher in 1:25:43, third F40 and fourth female runner overall.

Other notable category successes included Lyndsay Darbyshire third F45 in 1:31:04, Don Nichol who was second M60 in 1:32:55, Don Taylor third M65 in 1:48:52 and Phil Glassbrook second M70 in 1:51:15.

Closer to home, three members tackled another Bluebell challenge – again involving a river crossing – at the Yarrow Bluebell 10K in Chorley.

Neil Critchley came in under the hour mark in 59:23, followed by Denise Hodgkinson in 1:08:52 and Tracy Cameron in 1:19:14.

Laurence Keighley and Gayle Gerrard took part in the Wigan Trail 10K.

Keighley crossed the line in 41:51, coming third in the F45 category. Gerrard completed the course in 51:16.

Liz McLellan followed up her silver medal at the European Duathlon Championships with victory in the F40 age category at the Pendle Triathlon.

She was third overall in the women’s event with a total time of 1:18:04. She completed the swim in 8:43, covered the bike course in 43:06 and finished off with 23:30 on the run.
