LOSTOCK AC member Colin Gregory has been selected to represent Great Britain at this weekend's European Triathlon Union middle distance championship in Herning, Denmark.

Gregory, who will represent GB in the 45-49 age group, qualified for the European championship on the back of his sub-11 hour time at the 2016 Ironman UK in Bolton.

Having also completed the 2016 Marathon des Sables, Gregory is familiar with the challenge of competing abroad and goes into the race on the back of strong performances in the Southport Triathlon and Manchester Marathon where he posted a sub-three hour run.

A spokesperson for Lostock AC said: "This is a huge and thoroughly deserved achievement for Colin and a great honour for Lostock AC.

"In Colin we have one of the best age-group triathletes in the country and we wish him all the best in Denmark."

Upon returning from Denmark, Gregory will once again turn his attention to Ironman UK before finishing his season with the Sundowner Triathlon in September, after which he will set his priorities for 2018.

Closer to home, Lostock AC hosted the annual Henderson's End fell race last Thursday in aid of Bolton Mountain Rescue Team.

Michelle Sunter, Mark Checkley and Jocelyn Chadderton all turned in strong runs with Albert Sunter taking first place in the MV50 category.

Chris Taylor (1hr 2mins 2secs) and Jason Tonge (1:04:37) completed the Edenfield fell race on Sunday, while Rob Sharkey was 44th overall at the St Anne's Triathlon.
