BURNDEN’S Jackie Oakes marked the opening day of the 7-day Scorcher Run Festival – and her birthday – by completing the marathon event at Salwick near Preston.
Oakes was 12th overall and first F45 in a time of 4hr 42min 25secs – 24 hours after the Fellfoot 3.8K swim event in the Lake District which she covered in 1:01:33.
Sharon Drew was first F45 in the 5-mile race at the Scorcher Festival, coming second overall in a time of 50:57.
George Butler competed in the national middle distance triathlon championships at Lydd in Kent.
He was through the 1.9K swim and T1 in 36:11 before completing the 87K bike section – plus an extra unscheduled 4K thanks to a missing turn sign – in 3:04:59 before posting a half-marathon time of 2:29:58 for a total time of 6:13:31, sixth in the 20-24 category.
Martyn Pollitt put in a sterling ride at the Preston Pedalfest long event – 65 tough miles through the Trough of Bowland – finishing seventh overall in 3:39:36.
Also over the long course, Isaline Pollitt was third female finisher in 4:29:49 with Liz McLellan close behind, fourth female finisher in 4:29:56. Steve Riddle completed the route in 5:07:10.
On the shorter 37-mile route, Ann Butler finished in 3:04:58 with Julie Newton two seconds back in 3:05:00.
Gillian McGowan and Rita Ledwards completed the course together with the same time of 3:25:19.
