BURNDEN’S Shirley Staveley took second place in her F50 age group at the Wigan 10K with a time of 46mins 45secs.

The popular event attracted more than 4,000 runners and Staveley was runner-up out of 88 in her category.

Gillian McGowan was the other club member to take part, finishing in a time of 1:09:49.

Marcus Taylor travelled to Scotland to take part in the iconic Ben Nevis 14K race, a gruelling and demanding climb up the side of Scotland’s highest peak from Fort William and back down again, tackling more than 4,400 feet of ascent.

Taylor completed the arduous route – adding to his conquests of similar races up Scafell and Snowdon, the highest mountains in England and Wales – in 2:24:33.

Mark Kenny was the quickest of three members who took part in the City of Salford 10K, starting and finishing at Media City.

Kenny completed the course in 51:07, followed by Jessica Sammon in 1:13:09 and Ann Hardman in 1:22:31.

Martyn Pollitt finished the Isle of Man Triathlon Championships Standard Distance in 15th place.

He negotiated the 1500m swim off Ramsey in 32:32 and followed that up with a time of 70:15 for the 40K bike ride before posting a 10K time of 44:55 for a total of 2:29:24.

Isaline Pollitt was the third woman to finish the event. She completed the swim section in 40:20, the bike in 78:39 and the run in 48:09 to deliver a total time of 2:49:57.
