BOLTON’S Ladies’ World Darts champion Lisa Ashton is through to this year’s quarter finals after a straight sets victory over young Welsh thrower Rhian Griffiths today.
Reigning champion Ashton, aged 47, from Johnson Fold, won 2-0 in the best of three last-16 tie at the Lakeside Country Club to start her defence in good style against the 23-year-old from Port Talbot.
Looking for a fourth world crown in five years, Ashton won the first set 3-2 in legs then a second more comfortably by 3-0 to set up a last-eight clash with either Corrine Hammond, who she beat in last year’s final, or Fallon Sherrock, who was runner-up to the Boltonian in 2015, on Thursday.
Fourth-seed Ashton, cheered on by daughter Danielle at Frimley Green, averaged 77.76 in her victory.
