THE Bolton Table Tennis League took a break from league matches to play the quarter-finals of all the cup competitions.

Inevitably there were teams that found themselves the victims of their own success as they had to take action due to still being in both competitions.

One team gave their opponents a walkover while others had to put their tie in one competition back to a later week.

It was the Warburton Cup, which is for teams in all divisions, that lost out the most.

In one of the four matches played Hilton C were unable to field a team and Meadow Ben C were given a walkover into the next round.

In the Brian Gittins Cup for Premier and Division One teams the Premier League teams had the upper hand despite the handicaps.

Premier Division’s bottom club Burning Desire overpowered Hilton E from Division One who had a 107.5 start.

Flixton Cricket Club A from the Premier were drawn against Hilton B of Division One who had 100.5 start, and again it was the higher-ranked team that took the match 399-328.5.

Farnworth Social Circle A gave a walkover to Ramsbottom Town A due to still being involved in two cups.

In the George Yates Shield for Divisions Two and Three, there was a home derby between Division Three side Farnworth SC D and their B team from Division Two.

The D team had a 350.5 start, but the B team hung on to win 361-350.5 largely helped by Martyn Garnett’s 12 games and Jimmy Tunn who only dropped one.

Division Two Brass Zone made good use of their 30.5 start against Bolton TTC B from the same division as they ran out 337.5-321 winners.

Meadow Ben B did not need their 30.5 start against fellow Division Two side Ladybridge B as they won 395.5-319, while Polonia Club B were unable to hang on to their 72.5 start as they lost 357-350.5 to Hilton F.
