LOSTOCKER Nikki Hamerton produced a strong run to secure first place in her age group at the first of the Curley's 5k series.

The three-race series takes place around George's Lane and Wilderswood and is a tough, undulating course that is easily underestimated.

In the same race, James Jackson was equally impressive, finishing seventh overall and second in his age group in a time of 20mins 34secs.

Paul O'Brien finished 17th overall in 22:08, while Stuart Hatton and Paul Walton finished seventh and eighth in their respective age groups with times of 23:29 and 24:29.

Ian Burns finished in 29:45, Alan Mather in 29:55 and Jocelyn Chadderton in 30:56.

Saturday saw Albert Sunter, Josie Greenhalgh, Tony Marlow, Mike Ernill and Adrian Hope head to the Lake District for the Lakes Mountains 42.

Due to treacherous weather conditions the race organisers implemented the severe weather contingency and reduced the race to 26 miles, which still tested to the limits the mountain-running skills and endurance of the competitors.

Sunter was the first Lostocker home in 5:39:00 and 24th overall.

Greenhalgh was the fifth woman home in 5:48:00, closely followed by Marlow, making his return to competitive ultra running after injury, in 5:49:00. Ernill and Hope finished 47th and 48th, respectively, in 5:59:00.

Fourteen Lostockers entered the annual Rivington Pike Fell race and club fell champion Rob Sharkey was the first member home to place 57th overall and 13th in his age group in a time of 23:35.

He was followed home by Paul O'Brien (24:56), Mark Shuttleworth (26:12 and eighth in age group), Stuart Hatton (26:28), Chris Taylor (27:19), Paul Walton (27:51), Matt Withers (28:17), Paul Lacey (28:55), Ian Johnson (31:04), David Wilcock (31:27), Mark Checkley (32:02), Vikki Goodyear (33:39), Alan Mather (33:42) and Jocelyn Chadderton (34:18).
