JACK Flatley says he is up for a ‘Battle of Bolton’ with Jack Cullen, but will only think about it after the biggest fight of his life next month.

Flatley will meet the man who beat him in the senior ABA amateur final three years ago, Troy Williamson, on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s comeback fight next month.

Cullen, from Little Lever, told The Bolton News on Monday he thinks the time is right to get into the ring with fellow Boltonian Flatley.

Both are in double figures for pro fights and Cullen, aged 24, believes they are ready to meet in what he is certain would sell out the Macron Stadium.

There would be great interest in a bout between Cullen and Farnworth’s Flatley – who is a year younger but turned pro a year earlier.

They did meet as amateurs when Cullen won, and with every victory they have the prospect of them meeting in the ring becomes increasingly likely and exciting.

They are regarded as two potential rising stars in the British middleweight scene and it is a frustration to Cullen – who only has one defeat on his impressive record – that he continues to be fighting journeymen when he is desperate for titles and big fights.

Flatley – nicknamed Quiet Storm – accepts a fight with Cullen – aka Little Lever Meat Cleaver – would be big and would create great interest in Bolton and outside.

But he says he has to put any prospect of that fight to the back of his mind until after the Williamson bout at the Manchester Arena on June 9.

“It’s a big task against Williamson,” said Flatley. “We are both undefeated fighters so I cannot afford to think about anything else.

“He beat me in the senior ABA final elite championships in 2015.

“That’s the biggest fight I have had; that’s the pinnacle for me so far.

“There are a few things I didn’t do right in that fight and I want to put that right.

“It’s not so much revenge, I want to beat him and I want to make a statement.

“It’s a good bill at Manchester, a lot of people have been waiting for Tyson Fury to come back and it’s on BT and Box Nation so a lot of people are going to be watching.

“It’s a big opportunity for me and I’ve got to be at my best and make sure I do everything I can to take it.

“I want to win this fight and then title fights after that.

“Jack Cullen has been saying he wants to fight me and that’s something I would be interested in after this one.

“I want to win this fight and then start looking at who’s out there. Jack Cullen says he wants to fight me so I will be happy to fight him.”
