LOSTOCK fell runners Albert Sunter and Tony Marlow headed to the Scottish islands last weekend for one of the UK's toughest races, the Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon.

Along with Josie Greenhalgh and partner Paul Taylor, the Lostockers headed to the Isle of Harris for the two-day event.

Working in teams of two the Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon tests the running and navigational skills to the limit, although the competitors were rewarded with a spectacular mid-point camp on the shores of Loch Crabhaclail and an early-morning bagpipes wake-up call.

Competing in the veterans score race, Sunter and Marlow finished 14th overall and ninth in their age group, while Greenhalgh and Taylor were 19th overall and fourth in their age group in the same event.

Elsewhere, Adrian Hope turned in a time of 1hr 48mins at the Lakeland Trails Coniston half marathon, while Donna Kelsall turned in an equally-impressive time of 2:25:39 at the Bolton Hills half marathon.

Mark Liptrot continued his tour of the mountains of Snowdonia at the Y Garn fell race.

Jonathan Cosgrove continued to show strong multi-sport form at the First of the Summer Triathlon in Holmfirth. Cosgrove had a 400m swim time of 9:09, a 53:22 bike split over a hilly three-lap cycle route and 26:17 for his 5k for a total time of 1:30:45, which saw him finish 19th overall and fourth in his age group.
