ALL eyes will be on the defensive side of Leigh Centurions’ game on Sunday.
Coach Ian Millward was concerned with his side’s vulnerability in last week’s 46-40 home league defeat to Halifax.
Leigh conceded eight tries to the side one place below them in third in the Co-operative Championship, a statistic which is unacceptable to Millward.
Leigh put their league campaign to one side tomorrow as they concentrate on trying to reach the semi-finals of the Northern Rail Cup.
They travel to a Hunslet side from a division below but who are in outstanding form this season.
The Yorkshiremen are top of the Co-operative Championship 1 with 10 wins from the opening 11 games, and they are likely to give Leigh a test on their own South Leeds Stadium ground.
“We’ve got to make sure we improve our defence,” said Millward.
“Our attack is going all right, but we’ve got to improve. Defence is about going over some of our principles, some of our structure and make sure that we are consistent in that.
“Defence is a bit of everything plus the attitude to carry it out. We’ve got to tighten a few things from the weekend and I’ll re-jig a few things. We got a little bit disrupted and maybe that had an effect on our defence.”
Meanwhile, Leigh are consulting fans over their preference for matchday next season. The options given by the club are: Friday 8pm, Saturday 6pm and Sunday 3pm. Supporter views are welcomed at survey@leighrl.co.uk.
