WINTER ROUNDERS: weather forecaster said Sunday would be a fine day, with the possibility of scattered showers, unfortunately these ganged up on the opening matches in the Farnworth Winter Rounders League, although they were completed without too much discomfort.

Sixteen teams are playing in two sections of eight, so matches are scheduled through until February. Because of the proposed early finish to the season, any postponed matches will be re-scheduled on available weeks before the start of the summer season. Unfortunately, one game – Elton Vale A v Elton Vale B –has already been postponed because of the recent death of one of their players.

In Section A, Adlington lost by 28 runs to Wally’s Eleven, but most of that difference was down to bad balls, Adlington giving 21 more than their opponents.

Capital beat The Grapes A by 37 runs, despite the winning side bowling more bad balls. Capital built up a commanding lead in the first innings and edged the second innings to secure the points.

BYP Ladies A won the other Section A match against The New Inn, and again, the bad ball count was reflected in the final score of 155-113.

The closest finish in Section B was a 26-run victory for BYP Ladies B over Blades Barbers who were just six runs behind on the first innings.

The more experienced CRS proved too strong for Blackrod CC, winning by 219-100 and Rupert Ladies C triumphed over newly formed Aura Ladies 212-167 although Aura were only 20 runs adrift after the first innings.

The BSF (summer) Rounders League has organised a Charity Cabaret Night at the Railway Club, Green Lane, on Saturday, October 31. This is the final fund-raiser of the year in aid of JIGSAW.
