KEVIN Davies has called time on his playing career after 22 seasons in professional football.

The former Wanderers captain, who played 407 times for the club between 2003 and 2013, announced his decision this morning via his official Twitter account.

The Bolton News:

Signed on a free transfer by Sam Allardyce at a time when the one-time £7million striker’s career appeared to be waning, Davies went on to become one of the most popular players in the club’s modern day history.

In total he scored 85 goals, the most famous of which was probably his dramatic late equaliser against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in 2007 to secure an unlikely UEFA Cup draw against the German giants.

He also won a solitary England cap in 2010 at the age of 33, coming on as a substitute against Montenegro at Wembley, becoming the country's oldest debutant in 60 years.

Davies left Wanderers two years ago and signed for Preston North End, helping the Lillywhites to promotion via the play-offs last season.

During a playing career that started in 1993 he also played for Chesterfield, Southampton (twice), Millwall and Blackburn Rovers.

He continues to work tirelessly within grassroots sport in Bolton and has also raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for local causes via his charity KiDsofBolton.
